The Little Nourmahal was built by DeVries Lentsch in 1955 and featured in the Amsterdam Boat Show early in 1956. She was to be the prototype of a new class of express cruisers. However, Hull number 83 was the only one ever built. She was sold to Mr. Vincent Astor for delivery in New York later that year. This was confirmed by the Feadship Ft. Lauterdale office.

Hull: Double planked mahogany with a rubber membrane fitted between. Re-fastened completely below the water line in 1989 and finished with mahogany plugs. Trim tabs were also fitted. Deck/Exterior Cabin: Natural Teak oiled with varnished railings. Removable lazarette floor gives access to the entire aft 10’-12’ of the hull, a watertight compartment that houses two 100 gallon monel gas tanks, 60 gallon water tank and the rudder posts/steering gear.

Engines: twin counter-rotating Chrysler 331 Marine Hemis with approximately 200 hp each. Were re-blocked in 1984. Cruising speed is 16 knots with a top speed of just over 20 knots. Paragon 2.5:1 reduction gears and hydraulic shift transmissions drive 1 ¾ inch monel shafts. Propellers are 24” diameter by 24” pitch. Engine compartment is a separate watertight area with automatic bilge pump and fume detector.

Accommodations: Private cabin in the bow with vee berth, hanging closet, storage below, reading lights, forward hatch and four opening ports. Galley to starboard with s/s sink, storage and ice box below the counter. Head to port with s/s sink and storage. Pressure hot and cold water, 12 gallon electric heater. Bunk beds to starboard that fold down to settee, dining table and seats to port which drop into double bed. The area forward of the engine compartment is a separate watertight compartment with automatic bilge pump.

Some basics/facts as we know them:
- Originally red/blue when owned by Vincent Astor, son of John Jacob Astor.
- (2) 331 Hemis are installed with one spare 331.
- 42’ length, all mahogany construction.
- Well documented history.
- As late as 1991, boat was winning awards.

Great historical piece with a rich history. Will need a full restoration to be seaworthy.
